| Mountainair, New Mexico
Mountainair is located 9 miles from the geographic center of New Mexico
in scenic high desert country. Mild climate, low property taxes,
low cost of living, expansive views, pristine environment and easy living
are the attractions for people relocating here from other parts of the
country. The population of the town of Mountainair is 1200, with
another 1200 people living within a 20 mile radius.
Climate and terrain
The land located west, south and north of Mountainair is primarily
rolling hills with piñon and juniper trees. Ponderosa pine
is also found north and southeast of Mountainair near the Manzano and
Gallinas Mountains. There is easy access to Cibola National
Forest with some forest entrances within 9 miles of town. Wildlife found
in this area includes antelope, mule deer, elk, black bear,
wild turkey, coyote, bobcat, and mountain lions.
With an elevation of 6,500 ft. to 7,200 ft for most home locations,
we don't experience extreme weather. Mountainair receives 12-16
inches of precipitation annually and has warm summers and moderate winters.
