Two Ways to Hunt New Mexico
There is more to a hunt than most people realize. Whether you’re hunting for the meat, a trophy with a rifle or hunting for a great photograph with your SLR, there are those who hunt purely for the experience. The experience is and of itself indescribable, and one many will not know unless they go on a hunt.
The methods and animals in New Mexico are as varied as the weather and the area surrounding Rancho Los Caballos is no exception. New Mexico has 9 million acres of national forests, about 13 million acres of BLM lands and State Trust Lands with easements for hunting. Most New Mexico land is open to public hunting and offers a diverse range of big game species including, javelina, deer, oryx, ibex, elk, bighorn sheep, barbary sheep, black bear and cougar.
If you are not physically active, pick up trucks or four wheelers may be your best option. To get the full benefit of the sights and sound of the wondrous outdoors while on an hunt, try horseback where some animals might mistake you for one of their own.
You may choose to hunt elk, bear, mountain lion, deer, coyotes, migratory birds or wild mustangs in their natural habitat. There are also expeditions for birds of prey, so you don't have to leave the country for exotic animals … and it’s all adjacent to Rancho Los Caballos or on other nearby New Mexico State Lands.
